A Week of WODs

My whole post got erased {{huge sigh}} before I got a chance to post it so this is going to be a very picture-heavy recap!

But the good news is there are FOUR brand new workouts included in this post!!!!! CHECK 'EM OUT!!

Wednesday

My girlfriend and I went walking at the park with the little ones in their strollers.  Nothing too exciting but 2 miles is better than nothing....#wycwyc!

Thursday:

I went to a very early morning Orange Theory class!  Everyone was still sleeping in my house when I left - JEALOUS!!
We did some running (2.25 miles), some rowing (1400+ meters) and some intense strength in the weight room.

We did this one combination move over and over and over again....10 knee highs + a drop down (which is basically the bottom half of a competition burpee)...exhausting!!!

Friday

A new routine - Jump Rope Jamboree!

Saturday:

Melissa Bender Dumbbell Interval Sculpt.  I used 15 lb dumbbells and I felt strong lifting the heavy weights!! Love a good strength routine :)

I added in a great new BONUS plank workout!!  In my opinion this is a quick, effective, short (less than 5 minutes!!) routine that you can add to the end of your workout - multiple times a week!  It's so important to remember to WORK YOUR CORE!!!!

Sunday:

Another new workout - focused on cardio - featuring my new fav, the jump rope!!  Looks simple but try it and tell me what you think after Round 3!

Monday:

I took the boys for a 2 mile walk in the double stroller...."Heavy" duty workout (70+ lbs of kids plus the stroller!)

Then I came up with this AWESOME leg routine - guaranteed to leave your quads burning!!  It was really challenging but great!

Tuesday:

I did a new Bender workout, 15 Minute HIIT: No Treadmill Necessary, and LOVED it!!!  I was sweating!

A little while later (since my legs/quads/complete lower half were toast!) I did the 5 Minute Arm Workout, an oldie but goodie, and it was the perfect way to top off the day!!

I am sharing this post for Motivation Monday - check it out!

So, what have you been doing to stay active during the holidays?
Do any of my new workouts tickle your fancy?? :)

Secret Santa - Blogger Style!

Hey hey hey!!!

I have a bunch of workouts (and a list of other things!) that I want to fill you in on, but to be honest, I don't know how much blogging I'll be doing in the next couple of weeks.  I'll be popping in and out when I feel like checking in...I just really want this holiday time to be family-focused and stress-free! :)

About a month ago Michelle from A Healthy Mrs posted about a Blogger Holiday Gift Exchange that she was hosting!  I immediately emailed her that I was interested!!  What a cute, fun idea!!

(source)
I got Lisa from Running Out of Wine {{Hi Lisa!!}}  You can head over to her blog and see her post on the goodies that I sent her!!

On the flip side, Tanya from Running in Boise got me!  Thank you for my present, Tanya!!

My package arrived early last week...

I was so excited by my new bracelet (it says "Relentless") - check out the their website, Endorphin Warrior.  This company has tons of products with such positive and awesome uplifting messages for bad-ass workout peeps - just like myself ;)

The package also included 2 Skratch Labs Exercise Hydration Mixes.  I usually just drink water, water, water before, during and after my workouts - but these sound delicious (Pineapple and Orange) and definitely worth a try!!

A BIG THANK YOU
to Tanya for my gift and to Michelle for hosting this fun blogger gift exchange!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

Hi. My name is Sammy and I...{believe there is no time like the present!} #TTT

This will be a quick #thoughtsthingsthursday because sometimes I think that a picture is worth a thousand words.

I posted this graphic on Twitter yesterday and I can't get it out of my head!  I touched on this a few months ago here, but the older I get the more I realize...

there's no day like today!

If there is something that you want / need / are missing in your life, go after it!  And you don't have to wait until January 1 (although it IS right around the corner! lol)

What is something that YOU want to achieve?  Make it specific, write it down, keep it in a spot where you will see it often and work towards that goal each and every day!

Portion Distortion - Are YOU in control?

Hi guys!!  It's Wednesday which means that we're getting over that mid-week hump....pretty soon we'll be sliding into the weekend and then...dum, dum, dum....Christmas week :)

I'm glad to report that yesterday I did end up doing the plank workout (it's so quick but so effective!) AND having a berry-licious vanilla protein shake (so delicious!) - I was happy that I did what I set out to do, actually executing something that you said you'd complete is a great feeling!!

So, as the New Year approaches I thought I'd touch on something that I feel like I know a little bit about - as a former (lifelong!?) Weight Watcher point-counter I remember a lot of emphasis being put on portion control.  In a broad sense that IS what WW is...learning to enjoy all things in moderation and how to control the portion sizes YOU (and your family) are consuming.

It sounds like a simple task but in today's world it definitely isn't!  Here's why....

(source)
This graphic is a little dramatic, and even if it's only partly true the fact is that portion sizes when eating out are OUT OF CONTROL!!  105% of America is obese (or something like that! lol) and this is why!  Scary stuff, right?

So I compiled a short list of my tips for having better portion control.  Just bringing awareness here, guys.  Please don't read this as DO ALL OF THESE THINGS OR ELSE lol.  I am writing it more to bring it to your attention, just so you can be a little more cognisant of the amount that you're eating!

{{I'm also not saying "never indulge" - you should definitely indulge from time to time....It's all about balance, IMO!}}

WAYS TO BE IN CONTROL....PORTION CONTROL!
  • Eat intuitively!
    • Listen to your body - if it's full, stop eating!!  And give yourself time to actually feel full!
  • You don't have to be a member of the Clean Plate Club!
    • There is NO PRIZE for finishing!! If you are hungry and want to eat it, great.  If not, back away!
  • Just because a restaurant serves you a "plateful" doesn't mean that it is a 1-serving portion!  Because it's usually never is!
    • Order the lunch portion
    • Ask for half of your order to be boxed up, to-go before they even bring it to the table
      • An order of spaghetti and meatballs at a restaurant is usually 2+ servings (at least!)
  • Just because your mom serves you a "plateful" doesn't mean that it is a 1-serving portion!
    • The word "mom" here can be subbed out for any family member or friend!  Your grandma, your husband, your wife, your best friend....
    • Sometimes family members think that the way they show you how much they love you is by the amount of food that they serve you!  Not true people!!
  • Use a smaller plate
    • Less plate = less room for food on that plate
  • Have a colorful plate full of ALL of the food groups!
    (source)
To sum it up I made this simple graphic! (I can't help myself - I love PicMonkey!)

What are some of your tips to avoid "portion distortion"??

Bullet Point Tuesday :)

I have some major catching up to do on all of your lovely blogs so this post will be quick but informative!
  • Sunday night we went to our friends' house for a BBQ.  So delicious and fun!  Our kids are the same age (she has 2 girls / I have 2 boys!) and they really love playing together.  It's very sweet!
    • I made this for dessert and IT.WAS.A.HIT!!!  I know I should be trying to make things from scratch but this was so easy and I made it a couple of months ago so I knew it was super delicious!!
(This was just before I put it in the oven - after about 50 minutes it was a perfectly cooked, brownie/cookie cake of awesomeness!)
  • I didn't work out yesterday.  I wanted to, but it had to happen during nap time and I was just not feeling it!  A rest day it was!
  • This morning I ran 2 miles pushing the little guy in the jogging stroller - exhausting!  But I did pretty good!
  • Now I'm craving the berry smoothie from this weekend - and I'm thinking about doing my plank workout before I shower!  I'll repost them just in case you missed them!

Hope you guys are having a great Tuesday!!!
I'm off to plank, drink (my shake), shower and catch up with you all!!

Weekend Round-up

Happy Monday!!  Can you believe it's just over a week until Christmas??  I hope after this work week everyone gets to enjoy at least a few days off of work, a little rest and relaxation and a lot of family time!

(source)
I had a great weekend and, imagine this, I didn't open my computer!  I just wasn't in the mood.  I was busy relaxing and having family time and watching tv!  There I said it ;)

I do check Twitter from my phone and I did link up for the SITS Girls Saturday Sharefest (because I think it's great!), but other than that I was out of touch!  But now I'm back and ready for a new week together! :)

Ohh, before I get to the nitty-gritty of this post (which includes a GREAT plank workout and a new smoothie recipe!) I want to share a coupon code for Vitalicious!  I told them how I had wished that every one that entered my giveaway could have won, so they passed along a coupon code that will give you 10% off ANY ORDER on the website!!

This is just another example of why I love this company - great food AND great customer appreciation.....Thanks Vitalicious!!

Saturday
Saturday morning I had a dentist appointment - everything checked out good (yea!) - but I woke up early enough to get in a fast workout first!

I headed to the gym for only 30 minutes - I chose a little more sleep and a little less workout - PRIORITIES!  I started with a 1 mile run (in 9:10) to get my heart pumping and body moving!  I knew that Sunday morning I had a date with one of my boyfriends, Orange Theory (the jump rope is my other new boyfriend - I'm a busy lady these days!!) so I wanted to keep it a little simpler today.

After my run I did a great plank routine.  I LOVE planking!!!  It's a total body burner {it really is!} - check out this graphic: (I've shared it before but I'm sharing it again!)
(source)
Amazing!

So I came up with this awesome core workout.  During the Bonus Set my body was shaking!

Sunday:
Orange Theory!  I ran 3.25 miles during the first 30 minutes of class - WOWSA!!  Check out these stats:

It's such an amazing workout!  I was running at 9.0mph at some points which, to me, is basically lightening speed! :)

We did a lot of strength training incorporating multiple muscle groups at the same time - for example, bicep curls while in a static squat, hence the massive calorie burn.  Exhausting-ly awesome!

After OT I wanted to refuel - so I finally took out my blender and decided to make a protein fruit smoothie! (My previous shakes were made without any ice/frozen fruit so I used the Blender Bottle!)

So I made a berry-based shake and it was nutritiously delicious - BOTH of my kids had a little in their own cups because they liked it so much! {{NOTE TO SELF: double the recipe so I have enough for me + both kids lol}}

I was thinking maybe next time I will use greek yogurt in place of the milk.  But as-is this shake was fabulous!!

How was everyone's weekend??
Are you off of work yet for the holidays?

Vitalicious Giveaway Winner! and a 5 Minute Workout!!

First thing's first: THANK YOU to everyone that commented/entered this giveaway!  I so appreciate all of your support and I wish you all could have won!  Unfortunately, that's not the case!

Without further ado....the WINNER of the delicious and nutritious Vitalicious SuperSampler Pack is:

Comment 7: txa1265 - Michael!!

CONGRATULATIONS MICHAEL!!
Please email me at sammy.peaceloveandicecream@gmail.com and don't forget to include your full name and address (which cannot be a P.O. Box)!!

And a BIG, HUGE THANK YOU to my friends at Vitalicious for helping me out with my first ever giveaway!  I hope to do [many] more in the {near} future! :)

So, I have a question for you...who doesn't have 5 minutes? I mean really....we can ALL find 5 minutes, which is why I came up with this quick, kick-butt, cardio blast workout!  It gets the heart pumping and the body moving!

Feel free to repeat it 2 or 3x if you have the time and energy!  I had already done an awesome new Bender workout (15 Minute Arm Flab-u-less Workout) so I only went through this Cardio Blast routine once yesterday!

Between the Bender workout {which was actually pretty intense...don't be fooled that it's a 'simple arm routine' because IT'S NOT!} and this 5 minute cardio blast I was sweaty and had a great 20 minute workout.  You know me and my new boyfriend, the jump rope ;)

There are so many benefits of jumping rope!  I love that it's now in my regular fitness rotation!

TGIF and I'll see you all over the weeekend!!

Hi. My name is Sammy and I...{have some mom confessions!} #TTT

Just a reminder that today is the last day to enter my Vitalicious SuperSampler Giveaway.  Did you enter yet??  The giveaway ends tonight (Thursday)
at midnight EST and is open to U.S. residents only!!

Happy #thoughtsthingsthursday everyone!!  But before I tell you about some mom confessions that I have - I can be honest here, can't I?! - I want to tell you about an awesome workout that I did yesterday!  I liked it so much I may actually do it again today!

I worked out while the little guy was napping.  I was not, I repeat NOT, in the mood for a workout!  Who wants to get all sweaty and overheated and exhausted at 2:00pm?  I actually already was exhausted, that was my problem.  I wanted to just veg out, and catch up on your blogs, and color with my 4 year old!  I felt like I had no oomph (that is a technical term ;))

But, I pushed on....and found a great new 15 minute Bender video and thought, "I could do 15 minutes...what's 15 minutes?"  It's the 15 Minute Cardio HIIT Fat Melting Workout - and it was a sweaty, cardio-intensive 15 minutes, which was a total switch-er-oo from Monday's cardio-less workout.  It was a really really awesome workout!

(source)
OK, now on to #ttt....and not to sound like Usher but These are my confessions!

When you become a mom you all of a sudden become a member of a very exclusive group (it's like when you join a sorority, or get married)  There are certain things that you do or say that are considered 'normal' in your exclusive group that may seem 'odd or wrong' to outsiders.  Do you follow what I"m saying?

And so I decided to throw some of my "mom confessions" out there.  And whether you're a mom or not, I want your feedback.  Think I'm crazy?  Think they're totally OK?  You tell me...

Let me explain!
  1. I just wrote about this actually!  I make breakfast for dinner A LOT!  The regulars in our rotation: scrambled eggs, pancakes, waffles, french toast (which I make into sticks so they can dip it in the syrup - kids love to dip! lol), or a combination of these.  They are a comforting and delicious breakfast dinner choice!
  2. Sometimes I have to use the restroom, or do the laundry, or empty the dishwasher, or throw on some makeup, or...well, you get the point!  Sometimes I need a minute!  Period!
  3. My kids learned early on (my little one isn't even 2 yet!) that the bakery gives out cookies to kids!  The second we cross over the threshold into the supermarket my little guy says "cookie. cookie. cookie.".  It makes him happy --> which makes me happy!  It keeps him quiet and occupied --> which allows me to shop quicker!  Win-win!  (Even at 8:00am!)
  4. My friends with little girls always say, "So-and-so just had to pick out her outfit this morning...you're so lucky you have boys!"  Not true, people!  Even boys - my boys, at least - have opinions about their clothes.  There are things they like (the a TMNT shirt, for instance) and things they don't (the boring, plain t-shirt with no graphic).  My older son would literally wear one of his t-shirts every.single.day if I let him...and sometimes I just do!  Some kids get really into costumes....I can't even tell you how many princesses and superheroes I've seen in stores, and I'm not just talking around Halloween!  Sometimes you just have to surrender!
  5. We all get tired!  My little one still naps but my older one refuses (who would argue with a nap?) so we have "veg out" time.  I let him hang out on the couch, watch a TV show or a Disney movie and just chill.  We are always on the go-go-go, and he gets SO much action at school - so I'm OK with an hour or so of just relaxing!
What do you guys think?
What 'mom' confessions do you have to add to my list??

Early week workouts & it's time for holiday movies!!

Hi guys!  Did you enter my BIG Vitalicious giveaway yet?  Remember, it's open to U.S. residents only and you can enter until Thursday night at midnight (EST)!

Monday was a busy day (you know Mondays!) so I waited to do my workout until about 7:00pm.  Ugh, right?  I knew I didn't want to do anything cardio heavy and I found a GREAT, new Bender workout, Standing Buns and Thigh Slimming 15 minute workout.

It was a nice change with no cardio - I just wasn't in the mood - but boy did this target those legs...outer thigh, inner thigh, butt, quads - all were burning at one point or another during the workout!  And it was body weight which makes it an anywhere, anytime workout! {Love that!}

(source)
By the time I cooled down and decided to eat dinner I wasn't that hungry.  So I happily had cereal - I love cereal - and sometimes you just need a bowl (or 3!  What?? They were small!).  Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds + skim milk + sliced almonds + handful of granola!  So yum!! {I'm making myself hungry just writing it!}

(source)

Then I woke up Tuesday and took the little guy on a run!  I wanted Tuesday's WOD to be a quick run so I figured doing it early (and just getting it over with!) was my best bet!  It was hot {not trying to rub it in...it just really was hot! lol}

2 miles in under 20 minutes.....pushing a 30+ lb kid...I think I did pretty darn good!  This was my sweaty self after a little cool down:

Not sure if you can see it, but I was dripping!  And I have no makeup on!  Oy! lol

So, how is it already mid-December??  It's no secret that I love holidays (remember the endless posts about Halloween??)!  There are a few different aspects about them that I love....festive decorations, the food, the family time....and the tv!  There are some GREAT holiday movies that have already started playing!

And it's all about ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas!

(source)
My favorites on the list include:
  • National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (this one's at the top TOP of my list!)
  • Fred Clause
  • The Santa Clause
  • A handful of made-for-tv movies (that I can't wait to watch!)
  • Some Disney classics
It's just a festive good time!! Check out the calendar!

What are your favorite holiday movies?

Weekend Recap

Before I recap my wonderful weekend for you guys, I have an announcement!!

Check back tomorrow - Tuesday 12/10 - because I am doing a GIVEAWAY of one of my favorite things!!!!!!  Can you guess what it is?  Hope to see you there :)
{It's my first giveaway....can you tell I'm excited?!}

Saturday

I woke up and did a new, awesome Bender workout, Muffin Top Meltdown.  I was dripping sweat!  For the 30-second cardio bursts I did SUs with the jump rope.  I've been talking about it a lot....but I'm really loving this whole jump rope thing!  It's so total body!

Then, because I wanted a few more minutes of cardio, I did 3 sets of 100 SUs, where every 10th rep was a double under (10, 20, 30....100).  I got caught up a few times in the jump rope - the DUs are HARD!  A lot of thinking is involved...but I think with practice they'd get a little easier.

After my workout I was off to get a much needed manicure and pedicure - I did a gel manicure, which, IMO, is so necessary.  I workout, I wash dishes, I am with my kids all day....I need my polish to stay on!  I got matching on my nails and toes...OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark.  It's a personal fav of mine!  I literally feel better physically when my nails and toes are polished....anyone else? ((or am I a total weirdo?))

We ordered in sushi for dinner and then I watched Crazy Sexy Cool: The TLC Story that aired on VH1 a week or so ago.....it was entertaining and the characters looked almost exactly like the real TLC!  It really gave a good look into the way they formed the group and the major trials and tribulations they went through, I had no idea.  And it made me realize that I know and absolutely LOVE all of their songs!!  They were such a power group! RIP Left Eye!

Sunday:

I had an early Orange Theory class.  It was "distance Sunday"...like it always is!  I love/hate distance Sundays.  At every OT class I always start on the treadmill because I could never run at the intensity that the trainers require recommend after doing the rowing machine & weight room.  In the first 28ish minutes of class I completed 3.2 miles!  I was exhausted...and we still had the 2nd half of class to complete!

We did a small amount of rowing and a lot of time in the weight room...chest press, chest flies, squats, jump squats, push-ups, mountain climbers, curls, tricep kick-backs, tricep dips....it was intense!  Check out these stats...

575 calories!!!  And it felt good!!

We BBQ'd for dinner last night, which I love - doesn't everything taste better on the BBQ??  We had lots of yummy eats...

Starting at the 12:00 spot....macaroni salad (store bought), a 97% fat free hot dog (I only ate 1/2), a 7% fat lean ground beef American cheese burger (I only ate 1/2), grilled pineapple, grilled zucchini + (not pictured) some french fries from the oven!

I was actually really full after this meal - it was a lot to eat!  But it was goo-ooood!  And we have leftovers for tonight!! :)

Hope you all had a great weekend!
What do you LOVE to grill on the BBQ?

Friday recap & I make the best scrambled eggs!

Welcome to the Weekend!!!  {{Apparently I'm the self-appointed cruise director here ;)}}

(source)
I am off to get a VERY much needed manicure and pedicure!  I haven't seen my nails and toes look so awful in, well, ever, I think!  I'm stoked! And I'll be using a gift card that my Grandma got me for Hanukkah - double stoked!!

These nails look SO pretty but I never do red....do you guys do red?
(source)
Yesterday I woke up ready to run!!  My legs were a little heavy from Thursday night's Pyramid Workout (<--did you guys like this one? anyone planning to try it?) - but I was jonesing for some cardio....so my day started off with a great 2 mile run at a fast (for me!) pace - 17:59!

I ran some errands and went to the park with my little one in the morning, then the entire afternoon I had NO internet - holy frustration!  I knew that I just needed to reset to the modem and router, but I couldn't get to them while the little guy was napping so I spent most of the afternoon disconnected, which was nice (except for the fact that I didn't get to catch up on most of your blogs - sorry & boo!)

Then after dinner last night (another amazing taco salad - this time I added my homemade guacamole, which I make now with no onions!!) we went to see a Christmas lights display that we go to every year!  My sons were in awe - best $15 I"ve spent in a long time :)

(source)

Before I go I just want to share this super simple, but DELICIOUS recipe for scrambled eggs!  I know, scrambled eggs are pretty self-explanatory....but these little additions will make them super duper awesome.  {I'd be lying if I didn't tell you that I learned this from my mom - she's a scrambled eggs expert! }

We do breakfast for dinner often in our house and my scrambled eggs are always a favorite for my kids :)  I make this recipe as is for my kids and they split it.  I make it "hearty" for them, so I use butter in the pan (you could use Pam spray), I use whole milk (you could use reduced fat or fat free) and I use full-fat cheese (you could use reduced fat).

This is very versatile so you can totally double, triple, quadruple this recipe if necessary!  Also, add in your favorite protein source, meat and/or veggies to "beef" it up even more!!  And season to taste with salt and pepper, and/or any other seasonings you'd like!

Do you make scrambled eggs often?
What do you think about 'breakfast for dinner'?

A quick 'anywhere' workout & my Turkey Trot recap!

Happy Friday!!!! Another week came and went - so fast!  It went fast for you guys too, right?  This weekend we don't have too much craziness going on so it should be fun!  Today I wanted to fill you in on last night's dinner and WOD...and then finally do a quick Turkey Trot recap!

I decided to make tacos for dinner.  Who doesn't love tacos?

The hubby had tacos (hard and soft shell) and I made the kids cheese quesadillas...but I was craving a taco salad - and it was really delicious!  Simple but so much flavor!  :)

My workout was quick but great - I think it only took me about 10 minutes.  I named it the 'anywhere' workout because all you need is yourself and a small space...no equipment needed...so you can literally do it anywhere!!

The bonus wall sits really had my legs burning!!  I am hoping to get got in a run this morning! :)

So, on to the Turkey Trot!  It's a small (about 1500 people) local 5k that takes place every year.  It's a quick, early, fun run.  One big loop!  It was a little cooler out than I was expecting, but I was dressed appropriately so I was good.

My husband, sister and I got to the race at about 7:10 for a 7:30 start time.  It's organized but very chill.  We said hi to some friends that we planned to meet up with, warmed up a bit and then it was time to start.  I felt great the entire run!  I took some water at each mile marker and Pandora was playing some really great music so I was on a role!

My sister and I ran together for about the first 2 miles or so, then she had so slow down for a bit.  She told me to keep going, so I did!  I felt like I was leaving her behind but let's face it, we weren't at war...she was totally fine - and ended up finishing only a couple of minutes after me which was awesome!

My PR!! Woooo hooooo! :)

Check out this hystical picture of me finishing the race from the official race photos!

LOL!!
I think that there is a local 5-mile race in the early Spring that I might sign up for, but we'll see.

Happy (almost) weekend everybody! :)

Do you like actual tacos or would you rather eat it as a salad?
Do your official race photos usually look good or like mine (totally ridiculous!)??

Hi. My name is Sammy and I...{am crafty!} #TTT

Well, I'm sort of crafty!  But I'll get to that in a minute! :)

Hope everyone is having a good "back to reality" week!  It's hard coming off of a holiday, but like I said, there is a lot of holiday fun-ness to look forward to in just a few short weeks :)

WOD - December 4
I had a really great - and random - workout yesterday!  My glutes were seriously sore from Tuesday's workout so I knew that I wanted to work upper body.  I very rarely do strictly strength training these days but today I really felt like working my arms so I did a HASfit workout, 10 Minute Arm Workout at Home, with 7 lb dumbbells.  And it was great!

My arms were dead after only 10 minutes - awesome!!

I haven't done a HASfit workout in a couple of months, but doing one made me remember why I love them so much....they're fast paced, short, intense and I really like Coach Kozak's motivation!  Head over and check him out...if you haven't already!

Then I did the 6 minute Bender jump rope workout - jumping rope is hard!  It's hard on your legs and calves and arms...it's exhausting!  But I loved it.  And I was feeling pumped.  So I followed that 6 minute video up with 2 sets of 5-minute single unders!  During the 1st set I did 629 SUs! And then for the 2nd set...I totally just stopped counting midway through - it's like all of a sudden I couldn't count and jump at the same time - hello?!?! LOL Not a big deal.

So that was 16 solid minutes of jump roping and I was feeling strong!!

Then I had a protein shake!! (I'm on a role!)

I made a dairy free version of my Coffee Peanut Butter Cup Protein Shake from yesterday!  I substituted water for the milk and also added in a Splenda packet - which I probably didn't need but it was too late to take it out ;)

[Reminder of yesterday's shake]

So, back to #thoughtsthingsthursday!  I'm (sort of) crafty!

There are times when I get in a crafty mood - I actually really like just walking around Jo-Ann Fabric or Michaels Arts & Crafts.  It makes me wish I was very crafty - meaning I had the time and the patience.  I've made some super cute things and I'm going to share a couple of recent crafts that I've done with you!

Crayon Letter in a Shadow Box:

I saw this on the internet months and months ago and I knew that I had to replicate it!! (I can't remember where I originally saw it so I can't link to it - sorry!)  You can make it for your child's room, as a gift for another child's birthday, for your child's teacher...it really makes a statement!

This was super easy and fun to do!  I bought a pack of fresh crayons, a shadow box and a thick piece of scrapbook paper.  You also need a glue gun, a sharp scissor or knife and a pencil.
  1. Lightly trace out the letter that you want to make on the scrapbook paper.
  2. Pick your color palette of crayons and lay them out along the letter so you know (a) how many you need and (b) what order you want them in.
  3. I used a really sharp kitchen knife to cut the crayons.  As you can see from this close up, I cut them about 1/3 of the way up the crayon, leaving the crayon in 2 pieces.
  4. Then, starting from the top, glue the crayons down!
  5. Once it's dry, place the paper inside the shadow box and VOILA!
  6. Remember, this is supposed to be fun...there really is no right or wrong way!
Dry Erase Wall Calendar:

Yes, I am only 30, and I'm definitely considered of the 'tech-generation'....but I still keep a desk calendar at home!  There...I said it! ;)  I don't use my phone's calendar or reminders - I literally have to write every appointment, play date and plan down in my big desk calendar!  I highlight and have post-it reminders all over it!  Things are taped in and scribbled out.  And I love it!

So when I saw this on Pinterest (again, can't remember where...this was before I knew what 'pinning' was lol) I thought how perfect - an at-a-glance calendar for the week :)

This is super easy and, again, can be done however you see fit!  I bought this collage picture frame (it came just like this - how perfect?), 3 or 4 pieces of scrapbook paper and a few sets of letter stickers in different sizes and fonts.
  1. Cut out pieces of the scrapbook paper to fit in the frames - one for each individual frame and decide which one goes where!
  2. Spell out the days of the week and put it directly onto the paper.  Have fun with the placement, different scripts and sizes!
  3. You can use the last frame to put a special message, your family name or whatever you like!
  4. Slip the papers into the frames - in order of course!
  5. The glass acts as a a dry erase surface so use dry erase markers in all different colors to write in your schedule each week!  Brilliant, right??
Do you consider yourself 'crafty'?
Do you like jumping rope?
