Happy Labor Day & a Tabata workout!

Hey hey!!

I'm popping in to say...
HAPPY

To most of us "Labor Day" = a 3 day weekend, no work, hanging with friends and BBQ-ing by the pool.  And that's exactly what we're up to today!!

But what does labor day really mean??

Wikipedia says: [and they are always 100% accurate, right? ;)]

Labor Day in the United States is a holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a celebration of the American labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.

Just a food for thought!  When you're "celebrating" your day off today just remember why - and thanks for contributing to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our beautiful country! :)

On another note, Friday afternoon I did a 12-minute fast, effective, total body Tabata workout!  I just went through all of the reasons why Tabata (& HIIT workouts in general) are the bee's knees....if you didn't catch my post you can check it out here!

Anyway, the workout was awesome....

It was a great total body workout with a mix of cardio and strength.  It was plyometric-based (lots of jumping!) with squats (core & lower body) and flutters (core & upper body).  I suggest it if you have 12 minutes to spare!!

Oh, and if you don't know what flutters are, they are an awesome shoulder exercise!  I first learned about them from an amazing workout DVD by Tracey Staehle (does anybody know her??) and I love them!  They burn burn burn...so good!

(This is such an awkward picture, I know!)
You basically keep your elbows at this 90* angle and alternate raising each fist up about 1 inch towards the ceiling - alternating as fast as you can.  Does that make sense?  If you're feeling really crazy, keep your arms at this position during the 10 second "rest" periods of this Tabata set instead of dropping them to rest the shoulders.  I could only do this "active rest" for the first 2 rounds and then I NEEDED the actual rest after each 20 second burst!  It was great!

So that was Friday....Saturday was a 5-miler....

...then on Sunday we had a family beach day!!! The weather was beautiful and the kids had a blast!  I even got in some relaxation with my mom and sister while my dad and hubby played with the boys!! {{new bathing suit alert!}}

Stay tuned for exciting stuff this week - tomorrow I will announce the winner of the Bolder Band head band giveaway & later this week I have ANOTHER awesome new giveaway planned!!!!!!!!
