About Sammy

My name is Sammy and I am so happy to see you here!

at the gym, fit, fitness, personal trainer to-be

I have been reading health and fitness blogs for years and YEARS and I finally decided to take the leap and jump on the bandwagon!  Three blogs in particular - Roni's WeighCarrots N Cake and Kath Eats Real Food - were my inspiration for starting this blog.  Thanks ladies! :)

I am a 30 year old stay-at-home mom to 2 young boys!  I'm an engineer by degree, so I'm organized and anal and Type A...which I think has been to my advantage now that I'm home raising kids!  I love being a SAHM! I also work part-time doing social media account management!  We're always looking for new clients so if you need us please email me at sammy.peaceloveandicecream@gmail.com.  We are full of fresh, exciting ideas to promote your business!!

Here's a brief synopsis of my journey thus far:

During my Junior year of college I had a doctor's appointment and when I stepped on the scale, I.was.horrified!  I had gained about 15-20 lbs without even realizing it.  (How did I not see this??) The following day I started Weight Watchers and it was the best thing I ever did!  I learned about portion control and healthy habits.  I paid attention to what I was putting in my mouth.  I started going to the gym and actually working out, not just going through the motions!  I lost about 20 lbs in 3 months and I was thrilled!  And I kept the weight off!  After both of my pregnancies I did WW again and dropped the baby weight, but something clicked after my 2nd son was born - I not only wanted to drop the weight and get 'thinner', I wanted to be healthy and strong!  I started doing at-home workouts and that blossomed into my love of health & fitness and everything you'll see on this blog!  Now I run, do Orange Theory and continue my at-home kick-butt workouts with my favorite YouTube trainers, Melissa Bender and Coach Kozak.  Now health and fitness is just a part of my everyday life and I love it!

Unfortunately, you probably won't be seeing pics of the kids on the blog any time soon (sorry!)

My husband is my rock - we've been together since high school!  He's a great, helpful, caring husband and an awesome, hands-on dad!  I couldn't ask for more!

I'm very close with my sister who is 4 years younger than me.
She's on the left; I'm on the right - at my 30th surprise party!
She's on the right in this pic!
This blog, as of now!, is a total secret from my family and friends!  My husband of course {updated: and my sister now too!} knows but I am not ready for EVERYONE I know in my real life to read this.  I want to get my feet wet and then I'll share the good news! ;)

EVERYONE now knows about this blog! It felt great to shout it from the rooftops in June 2014 - when I joined Facebook and Instagram! - and I'm really excited for everyone I know to read it because I'm so proud of my "baby"!

I would love to hear from you, good or bad, so please leave a comment on a post or feel free to email me at sammy.peaceloveandicecream@gmail.com!

I am so glad you have joined me on my journey!  Have a great day and I hope you enjoy what you read!!

Don't forget to follow me on Social Media!!

  1. Hola Sammy, Love your story and blog so far! I have a similar Freshman 15 experience...oh back in the day.... :)

    1. Thanks Sarah!! If I only knew then what I know now.....I probably would've done the same things anyway ;)
      Thanks for the comment!

  2. Hi Sammy!! I really enjoyed your about me section. I am going to turn 30 in less than 90 days, and I use to kind of dread it. But now, I am actually kind of excited about it. I have had a lot of ups and downs in my 20s, but lately things have been going my way. I see now I had to go through a lot of those trials to prepare myself for the person I want and need to be. I see I am blessed in many ways, and I have finally let go of comparing myself to others. I guess I am finally starting to truly be comfortable in my own skin.

I think it is great that you have a husband who is hands on with the boys. I think men don't fully understand how important it is for them to be involved with their kids. I am not married or have kids, but I thank God that my Dad was always there for me and he still is to this day! I learned a lot about what a “real” man looks like from him.

I love “Melissa Bender” and she has helped me get back into working out. I love her videos. It is nice and saves money to be able to workout at home. I have been doing her 5 week body transformation workouts and I have seen improvement. An old injury flared up again and I have been taking some time off which I am not a fan of, but I don’t want the injury to get worse. I am going to see a chiropractor next week and I think that will finally help get me right. I have had Hip/ITBS Band/Lower Back issues off and on for years now, which has kept me from running. I really miss running.

Alright, I think I have written enough of a novel for one day. Sorry for the ramble, but I guess you inspired me!!

Enjoy the rest of your Friday!!

    1. Thank you for your comment and your kind words, Jared! I hope you enjoy reading my blog and I will check out yours as well! I'm glad you are also a fan of Melissa's. She really helped me get into - and stay in - great shape!! :)

  3. So glad you found me and my blog on twitter!! Your story is very inspiring :)

I at first only told my boyfriend about my blog but have slowly started telling a few friends about mine too so I can totally understand wanting to keep it on the down low for a whilst ;)

    1. Thanks Jan!
It's so hard...I am proud of this blog and I do want to tell people, but at the same time do I really need everyone in my real life reading all of the things I write on here?! lol
      Thanks for the comment! :)

  4. So funny, I am the same way with telling people. I post on twitter but have yet to put it on Facebook. My boyfriend thinks I'm crazy but it just feels a little weird to tell all of these people I know!

    1. Ditto!! I totally agree!! I'm actually wondering how much longer I can keep this up - but at the same time I just don't want to change my openness and honesty once I know people in real life are reading, ya know?! ;)
Thanks for your comment Kelsey! Looking forward to reading your blog :)
